India 1 - Pakistan 1.

For most of you, India 1 - Pakistan 1 might look surprising. For most of you, it should have been India 1 - Pakistan 0 as India defeated their arch rivals last night comfortably. For most of you, it should have been India's clean sweep in World Cups. For most of you, it should have been India 1 - Pakistan 4, considering the fact that last night's match was the first one where India defeated Pakistan in the historic venue of Eden Gardens. For me, it still is India 1 - Pakistan 1.
It was the first time when India and Pakistan played two World Cup matches on the same day. Not only the men, even the women from both the countries faced each other in their Group B encounter yesterday.
The Women's match which was played in Delhi was another customary India-Pakistan clash, not being short on entertainment. Sana Mir, Pakistan Women team's captain, won the toss elected to field and her decision was equally supported by Anam Amin and Asmavia Iqbal, who shared the new ball, reducing India to 7-2 after the end of the Powerplay. Not the most popular of starts just like the less popularity of Women's cricket. India, after receiving further blows, somehow managed to drag their campaign to 96 at the loss of 7 wickets after 20 overs.
Pakistan Women started their innings in good trim. At the end of the Powerplay, they reached 39-1 after the loss of Nahida Khan. Winning the match from here was expected to be a walk in the park for Pakistan Women. But what followed was typical India vs Pakistan. Rajeshwari Gayakwad, Harmanpreet Kaur and Jhulan Goswami picked a wicket each to restrict the visitors to 71-4 in the 15th over. To add more flavor to the match, Pakistan Women created mayhem with their running between the wickets. They further went down to 77-6 in 16 overs. To cease the various twists and turn, Mother Nature came into play. It was as if she traveled some 1300-odd km from Kolkata to Delhi just to bring the downpour in the capital city.
The match could not be resumed from hereon. According to the D/L Method, Pakistan Women were ahead by 2 runs and hence were declared as winners. Mithali Raj and her women were in distraught which was expected, especially when they came so close to the arms of victory from the jaws of defeat. Hence, India 0 - Pakistan 1.
But the women showed that cricket should be watched for the game and not for gender. It is as much as a women's game as it is men's. The contest was a perfect example of women showing that they can play an exciting brand of cricket as well. More than the common people, it is the job of various administrations around the world to promote Women's cricket the in the same way as Men's so that they also feel significant.
All eyes were now on the much awaited men's game in Kolkata. Keeping aside, the anticipation on the field during the match, this contest had already been throught a lot. Political tussle between the two nations had already shifted the match from North of India to the East of India. From the valleys of Himalayas close to the bay of Bay of Bengal. To add to it was the rain, which at once showed the possibility of abandonment of the match. But full marks to CAB (Cricket Association of Bengal) for working hard and making a 18-overs contest possible.
It was another high profile match where dignitaries from the countries were honored. If Shafqat Amanat Ali sang the national anthem for Pakistan, Amitabh Bachchan did it for the home team. Legends in the form of Imran Khan, Sachin Tendulkar and other Bollywood celebrities were watching the contest from the stands.
MS Dhoni won the toss and elected to field. Just like the past two months, his bowlers rose up to his expectations restricting Pakistan to 118-5 in 18 overs. To chase a target at a required run rate of 6.61 RPO was never going to be a big deal for India unless they created a sequel of their debacle vs New Zealand. Virat Kohli continued his dominance across formats, across opposition, across conditions and across years. Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Sami may have jolted India with early blows but Kohli's unbeaten 37-ball 55 made sure that India was off the mark in the Points Table as well as in the day's result, India 1 - Pakistan 1.

Virat Kohli was declared the Man of the Match.
Both the teams, having won one and lost one have 2 more games to play. It will not only be about winning from now, winning in a healthy way is the need of the hour as the Net Run Rate will play a huge role in the days to come.
